Vintage Grand Seiko Bracelets

While the vast majority of vintage Grand Seiko models were released on leather straps there were a number of models that were released on bracelets.

Often over time these bracelets have become separated from their original watches so I have documented the original supplied bracelets to allow collectors to know what should be attached to their watch.

I have broken down the list below by the movement and case code to allow people to easily find the specific watches and the details about the bracelet for it.

A number of models were supplied on both straps and bracelets with the only difference being the model number. Without the original receipts for some models it is not possible to determine if a particular example was supplied on a strap or bracelet.

If you have a vintage Grand Seiko and the movement and case number are not listed below then it was only produced on a leather strap.

Some models of bracelets were sold as aftermarket options. Examples of these can be seen in the 1972 No.1 Watchband Catalog.

The vintage GS models provided on bracelets are as follows, the case material is stainless steel unless otherwise noted:

MVMT-CASE: 5645-7010, 5645-7011
Model: 56GAC 020
Bracelet Model: XQB070
Material: Stainless Steel
Lug width: 18mm
Identification: This bracelet has the marking XQB070 stamped onto inner surface of clasp.

Note: This model is also listed in the 1972 Seiko watchband catalog as being compatible with the XQB011 bracelet. This is the same bracelet supplied with the 56GAW 020 (5646-7010 and 5646-7011). As the case design is shared between these models it is not surprising that the XQB011 bracelet is listed as a suitable replacement.

Models of this MVMT-CASE reference were supplied on a strap. Below are the model variants that were provided on a strap.

Additional: There has also been another bracelet spotted on an international variant of this watch. I have a high confidence that this bracelet style was available for the international release of this model but I would assume that this was not available in the JDM. This bracelet looks to be identical to the bracelet of the international release for the 6246-9000, with the exception of the end pieces to match the case profile. The bracelet is very high quality with solid inner and outer pieces combined with beads of rice. There is no model number or marking on the end links. The clasp is marked Seiko and on the inner surface STAINLESS STEEL, a tripartite logo and JAPAN. The manufacturer logo looks to be the same as seen on the JDM 6145/6146-8000 models bracelet.

MVMT-CASE: 6185-8000 (AAPC)
Model: 6185 014
Bracelet Model: Unknown
Material: AAPC (All Aluminum Palladium Alloy)
Lug width: 18mm
Identification: As you can see by the image it is a distinctive design that is unique to this model. On the inside of the clasp it is marked STAINLESS STEEL. At the end piece of the bracelet where it connects to the clasp it is marked PALLADIUM 400 SILVER 300 T. The clasp has a very unusual design with a second fold out section, this is likely there to make it easier to fit over the wearers hand due to the curved design of the bracelet. The outside of the clasp is marked Seiko and there are three micro adjustment holes all located at the end of the clasp.
Images:

Note: A similar model (6185-8010) has a hammered case finish and was only supplied on a leather strap.

Photos of this watch and bracelet can be seen on the UTDESIGN site at http://synchronar.blogspot.com.au/p/grand-seiko.html

A damaged example of this watch was offered on Yahoo Japan auctions by seller brandlandjp and the photos show how the bracelet attaches to the case. There are specific end pieces that screw into the main case body. The other section of the bracelet is secured to these end pieces via a pair of screws that hold two securing pins in place. This is more easily seen in the images below.
